More Cousin Time!

Barrett finally got to meet is Uncle Gabe, Aunt Liz, and cousin William the weekend after Christmas. Gabe, Liz, and William stayed with us on their way back to Houston from Tyler for the holidays.  The grown up boys got in a game of tennis while the mommies stayed at home with their napping boys. when the boys got done with their game, they spoiled us by cooking a delicious steak dinner!  I can't wait until Barrett can laugh along with his adorable cousin William!

Barrett's First Christmas

Barrett was lucky to add two Christmas celebrations to his list of firsts.  We went to Arlington first to celebrate with the Andersen side of the family.  While we were there, Barrett got to meet his great Grammie for the first time.  Grammie and Barrett bonded quickly, and I was lucky that Grammie didn't sneak back to Minnesota with my little man!

After Christmas with the Andersens, we headed to Austin to spend some time with the Powell side of the family.  Barrett went to his first restaurant for Uncle Jack's birthday, and then three more during the course of our visit!  On Christmas day, we went to the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort for brunch.  It was such a great place to spend the afternoon.  Christmas characters roamed throughout the place, and the boys even found some bicycles to work off all their brunch calories!

Travis, Barrett, and I had such a wonderful time celebrating this special holiday with all our families. We are truly blessed!

We have smiles!!

On December 16th Barrett gave us a flash of his beautiful smile!  I was singing Twinkle, Twinkle to him as I folded his laundry.  Ever since then, he gives us lots of smiles daily.  He is especially smiley in the mornings or after he has passed gas...typical boy!!

As you can see from all the pics in pajamas, the boy is happy in the morning.  Guess he is going to be a morning person like his momma!

My favorite!

One Month!

We made it a month!  Barrett has changed so much since we brought him home from the hospital.  He has put on weight, tummy time has gotten more tolerable, and he has started to make more eye contact with Mommy and Daddy (which we love)!  Our baby bear is even sleeping longer stretches through the night, and usually does not have to be soothed once I leave the nursery.  This makes for an easier day for me!

Today we visited Dr. Troendle for his one month check-up.  She had nothing but great things to report our little man.  Here are his updated stats:

Weight: 7 lbs. 10.5 oz. (still small)
Length: 20.5 inches
Head Circumference: 37 cm

Barrett's First Thanksgiving

Although Barrett didn't get to eat turkey with all the fixins, he had a fun first Thanksgiving.  We went to Uncle Jeff and Aunt Michelle's house for the day with Grandpa and JoJo.  Barrett got to meet his cousins Reid, Jack, and Hunter for the first time.  Reid was so sweet and gentle with Barrett.  I know all the boys are going to have so much fun playing together at holidays to come!

Our First Week Home

We had lots of visitors the first week home, but mommy was bad about taking pics of everyone.  Here are some highlights from the week.  Thanks to everyone who came for a visit and brought yummy food for these tired first time parents!

Barrett's Arrival

Barrett made his debut a little early than we expected.  Here is the story:

On October 30th I had a my weekly visit with Dr. Hays.  I was only dilated 1cm and not thinned at all.  He was also still high and had some dropping to do.  My doctor thought we still had plenty of time until our November 11th due date.  So you can see why I was completely surprised that my water broke later that night!  As I was turning over in bed, I felt my water break.  I was excited at first until I realized it was Halloween.  All through the pregnancy all I was saying was I did NOT want a Halloween baby.  I wanted Barrett to have a day that was special just to him.

I called the doctor, confirmed that my water did break, and I needed to head to the hospital even though I wasn't having any contractions.  Travis and I packed our bags and were on the way at 3:30am!  We got checked into the hospital and into the labor and delivery room quickly.  After getting hooked on to the monitors and checked by the resident, we learned that I was still only 1cm and barely thinned.  Travis and I tried to get some sleep as we were waiting to hear from the doctor how she wanted to proceed.  The nurse started me on pitocin at 7am to start contractions and get the process under way.  The contractions started about thirty minutes after my medicine started.  By noon labor was in full swing.  I was getting very uncomfortable so I asked for the epidural.  Things got much easier after the meds started to kick in!

Around 3pm Dr. Hays came by again to check on my progress.  I was still only dilated to 3cm and fully thinned.  Barrett still had some dropping to do and his heart rate was going up.  There was no indication that he had an infection, but they kept a close eye on him.  We discussed our options and decided rather than keep laboring and put more stress on the baby, that a c-section was the best option.

The staff worked quickly, and in no time I was in the operating room.  By 4:07pm William Barrett Powell arrived weighing in at 6 pounds 3 ounces and 20 inches long!  Travis watched and took pics as they cleaned him off.  Finally I got to meet my new sweet boy!  It was love at first sight.  Here are some pictures from the special day!
